Winter city breaks

The country's historic capital, Vilnius with one of Europe's most breathtaking Old Towns becomes a winter wonderland and ideal place for relaxing city break.

Vilnius has a spirit. It's where a magical tapestry of charm and character weave countless attractions together. It is a city bristling with vibrant development, but rich with the allure of ages. Even in winter, Vilnius is a city that glistens with natural beauty. A walk through the park, with the sound of snow crunching underfoot (Lithuanians call it the sound of "witches thinking"), is a spectacular pleasure, as branches draped in white, touch the sky above you. After exploring the city's wonderful sights, take a coffee break in one of the many cafes while watching the world go by. The second city Kaunas has a lot to offer tourists, from its own small but charming Old Town to its various kinds of museums and places to go.

Kaunas is an important cultural centre; the cultural life here has deep traditions, developed over 600 years of city's history. Kaunas may be rightly called the capital of museums. The first museum was established in Kaunas and today there are about 40 different art galleries, museums, and memorial houses. If you choose to visit Kaunas - winter is a magic time - many events take place in the city and you can joyfully mingle with the locals. More information is available at Kaunas Tourism Information Centre website.

The port city of Klaipeda stands by the narrow outlet linking the Curonian Lagoon with Baltic Sea and it is known as a vibrant and exciting city.

Klaipeda's Old Town has German-style half-timbered merchants' houses and converted warehouses. Its Sea Museum stands within restored 19th-century fortress and includes a dolphinarium and aquarium. More information is available at Klaipeda Tourism Information Centre website .
